On the left side of the Cathedral, at the level of the third transept, opens the Chapel of the Most Holy Sacrament, a rare example of Baroque in southern Calabria, erected in 1539 by the will of Archbishop Agostino Gonzaga.

It has a square plan and a domed roof; in the side walls there are niches adorned with the statues of four saints (Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint Thomas, and Saint Bonaventure) and of the four evangelists.

The back wall houses a majestic altar marked by four black porphyry columns, at the center of which is placed a canvas by Marolì from 1665, the “Sacrifice of Melchizedek,” the only ancient pictorial testimony. The chapel is richly decorated with polychrome marbles inlaid with both zoomorphic and phytomorphic subjects of Messinese stylistic origin.
